Each Minor Arcana suit represents a sequential route through different region of Oregon.
The cups suit begins on Mount Hood at Ramona Falls, before traveling along the Columbia River to the Oregon Coast and then southward- ending at Brookings, OR near the California Border.
The Wands begin on the south side of Mount Hood, near the White River, follow the Columbia River east, and then cut south and east again through the Blue Mountains, ending at the Owyhee Canyonlands near the Idaho border.
The Swords begin on the north side of the mountain, follows the path of the Deschutes River into central Oregon before crossing the high desert plateau and descending into the basin & range, before heading east to Steens Mountain and the Alvord Desert.
The Pentacles start on the north side of Hood and follow the Columbia River to the Willamette, visiting Portland, Oregon City, Silverton and then travel through the foothills of the cascades to the alpine meadows of Jefferson Park.
The court cards in each suit all share a location at the terminus of each suit’s journey that I felt was especially representative of the suit as a whole, as well as being what I personally consider to be an epic location.
While the Major Arcana locations were primarily chosen for aesthetic reasons, the Minor Arcana locations were found through intuitive processes I developed over the course of this project.
When I tried to force the project forward, my efforts were fruitless. I had to let everything unfold in its own time.
The Tarot of Oregon Places
